The Newport County Board of Realtors donated $10,000 to Church Community Housing Corporation. The funds were earmarked for the nonprofit community development organization’s homebuyer-training program. Jennifer O’Hora Lawrence, past president of the Newport County Board of Realtors, selected Church Community Housing to receive the money.
“We have such an affordable housing crisis in Newport County,” O’Hora Lawrence said. “We really need homebuyer-training programs so people can realize the American Dream.”
The donation is timely because of cuts to a federal grant that funds the training. The money allows Church Community Housing to continue the program and add two classes, he said. The funds donated by the realtors were raised, in part, at a golf outing held last summer. •
