PROVIDENCE – Construction of a nine-story hotel in downtown Providence reached a ceremonial point this week.

A ‘topping-off’ ceremony was held Tuesday to mark the completion of the steel framing. The hotel, owned by The Procaccianti Cos., will be a new Residence Inn as part of the Marriott families.

The 176-room hotel, located on West Fountain Street, is expected to be completed in 2019. It will include a restaurant and other retail open to the public at street level.

The construction manager is the Gilbane Building Co.
