“As a radiologist specializing in breast imaging, I see the critical difference early mammography screenings can make in patients’ lives,” said Dr. Robert Ward, breast radiologist at Rhode Island Medical Imaging. “More than 1,000 Rhode Islanders – our loved ones and neighbors – will receive a breast cancer diagnosis this year alone. With RIMI’s cutting-edge technology and team of subspecialized radiologists, we’re able to detect breast cancers sooner, providing patients with better treatment options and outcomes.”
RIMI has donated a total of $70,000 to RIDOH’s Women’s Cancer Screening Program since 2017. These donations help improve screening accessibility for Rhode Islanders. The program’s mission is to “reduce the number of cases and deaths due to breast and cervical cancer among women with limited access to health care,” including those who are underinsured or uninsured.
“We are incredibly grateful for our long-standing partnership with RIMI and their generous donation of $15,000 this year,” said Erica Lamy, manager of the Women’s Cancer Screening Program. “Over the years, our shared commitment to increasing access to cancer screenings for Rhode Islanders has driven meaningful progress. With aligned values and a mutual dedication to serving more individuals, this partnership helps us break down barriers to care and continue reducing disparities in cancer prevention and early detection.”
Along with its donation to RIDOH, RIMI has breast cancer awareness partnerships with several local universities. The organization has created co-branded pink items, including sweatshirts, T-shirts and tumblers sold online with proceeds going to the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation. RIMI was also a sponsor at the Gloria Gemma Walk on Oct. 6 and at the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on Oct. 20.
