PROVIDENCE – The average price of gasoline in Rhode Island has held steady for the past two weeks, while prices in Massachusetts inched up by a penny last week, AAA Southern New England reported today.
The auto club’s April 13 survey found the average price of self-serve, unleaded regular at Ocean State stations was $2.05 per gallon, the same as last week and only one cent more than two weeks ago. The survey found prices in Rhode Island ranging from $1.99 to $2.13.

At $2.05, the average price per gallon in Rhode Island also is the same as the average price nationwide, AAA said – but it is $1.19 less than the statewide average a year ago, when it was $3.24 per gallon.
In Rhode Island, the price of a gallon of gas is up 40 cents from the week of Dec. 29, when it hit a low of $1.65. But the price is down $1.46 from the high of $4.11 that it hit last July.
In Massachusetts, the survey found the average price of self-serve, unleaded regular was $1.96 per gallon, nine cents below the national average but up one cent from the previous week.
At stations in Rhode Island this week, the survey found average self-serve prices of $2.18 per gallon for midgrade unleaded, $2.30 for premium unleaded gasoline, and $2.44 for diesel.
