RIBGH Wellbeing Summit to focus on employee stress reduction

PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Business Group on Health will host its annual Wellbeing Summit on June 16, from 7:30-10:30 a.m., at the Providence Marriott Downtown, 1 Orms St., Providence. “Focus on the Facts: Decrease Stress and Boost Employee Engagement & Productivity” is the theme of this year’s summit RIBGH reported.

The number of patients diagnosed with hypertension – or high blood pressure – keeps rising and it’s already the nation’s No. 1 cause of death, RIBGH said. During the last decade, hypertension-related deaths increased 23 percent, yet all other causes of death decreased during that same period 21 percent.

As managing stress is a key way to manage blood pressure, this year’s summit will focus on several deadly-stress reduction strategies, including mindfulness, meditation and more. Robin Bouvier, vice president and well-being subject matter expert, Aon, will share new data from the 2017 Consumer Health Mindset Study that describes stress’ impact on employee productivity and provides inexpensive and free ideas for how organizations can overcome this challenge.

Other speakers – Vanessa Weiner, executive director, Center for Resilience, and Andy Lee, chief mindfulness officer, Aetna – will introduce mindfulness as an innovative approach to reduce employee stress and boost productivity. Attendees will learn how these industry leaders tie organizational objectives to their interventions to achieve leadership support and drive measurable business results. A panel of local employers will share their current stress management programs’ tactics and outcomes, reported RIBGH.
