RIDOH hosting public comment for Memorial Hospital closing

PAWTUCKET – Care New England’s application to close Memorial Hospital is filed, and the R.I. Department of Health is holding a meeting Monday night at Lyman B. Goff Middle School to gather public comment on the issue, as well as on the transfer of primary care services currently provided under Memorial Hospital’s license to Kent Hospital’s license.

While Care New England has reported it will maintain Memorial Hospital’s Family Care and Internal Medicine Centers in Pawtucket, that will require a transfer of licenses for those services from Memorial to Kent Hospital, said Joseph Wendelken, spokesman for RIDOH.

During the meeting at the 974 Newport Ave. location from 5 to 7 p.m., the public will have the opportunity to comment on what effects closing Memorial may have on the community. RIDOH officials at the meeting will not be able to answer questions about the application.

In addition to speaking at the meeting, the public can submit written comment. Written comment can be submitted in person on Nov. 27, or it can be submitted via email or postal mail until Dec. 11 to Paula Pullano, Rhode Island Department of Health, 3 Capitol Hill, Room 410, Providence, R.I., 02908 or Paula.Pullano@health.ri.gov.
