PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Department of Transportation will restart the process for selecting a development company to design and construct a long-awaited transit hub near Providence Station.
The renewed project, partially funded with a $35 million state bond, will remain a public-private partnership but will have more-specific requirements for the design of the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority bus hub, as well as space needed for state offices, according to RIDOT Director Peter Alviti Jr.
The state has identified a “preferred site,” but Alviti said that location would be publicly released when the new RFQ is issued, expected in a few weeks.
Attorneys advised the state to cancel the original process and begin anew, because the state had changed the scope of the project, Alviti said.
The new RFQ process will not change the timeline.
