PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island School of Design is one of 14 schools in North America and 60 worldwide chosen to participate in Student Focus, the Sony World Photography Awards university program.
With the environment as the theme of the Sony World Photography Awards 2009, students from participating schools are asked to create an image that highlights an environmental issue specific to their country.
One hundred twenty images – two from each school – will be selected for the World Photography Awards, then two students from each continent will be selected by a panel of judges.
The 12 finalists, along with their tutors, will win an expense-paid trip to Cannes, France. The overall student winner will be announced, along with winners of the professional and amateur categories, at the Sony World Photography Awards ceremony at the Palais des Festival in Cannes on April 16, 2009. •
