Senate approves Powell as permanent DLT head

PROVIDENCE – The state Senate has approved the governor’s nomination of interim R.I. Department of Labor and Training Director Sandra M. Powell to head the department on a permanent basis.
Gov. Donald L. Carcieri issued a statement last week praising the Senate for the April 9 approval, calling Powell a “gifted leader with a strong background in work force development.”
Powell, who took over the position from current state Deputy Secretary of Human Services Adelita S. Orefice, previously worked in the department as assistant director of the Workforce Development Division and has served on the DLT’s Employer Services Unit staff, the Rapid Response team and Employment Service staff. &#8226
