PROVIDENCE – Shawmut Design and Construction recently set the final steel beam in place atop the two-building River House apartments, under construction on Point Street in the Jewelry District.

Designed by Boston architect Spagnolo Gisness & Associates, the River House will provide luxury apartments for university students, young professionals and families in the area, according to a spokesman for Shawmut.

Expected to be completed in May 2019, the project has a pair of seven-story buildings and will feature 174 units, with 270 bedrooms.

The building will have some surface parking, a new exterior courtyard and a driveway linking to adjacent Davol Square and South Street Landing, according to a Shawmut spokesman. The buildings also will contain 5,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space.
