SOUTH KINGSTON – South County Hospital has earned its second consecutive three-year Pathway to Excellence redesignation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center recognizing it as a best place to work for nurses.
Pathway to Excellence designations recognize health care facilities that create positive work environments where nurses can flourish, with high work satisfaction and retention, according to the ANCC. Standards set by the Pathway to Excellence benefit nurses, patients and the communities they serve.

The Pathway to Excellence designation is based on the presence of the six practice standards and 69 elements of performance, which include shared decision-making, leadership, safety, quality, well-being and professional development. For an organization to earn the Pathway to Excellence distinction, it must successfully undergo a thorough review process for each practice standard and to be able to demonstrate integration of these standards into the facility’s management practices, operational policies and culture. Nurses in the organization then validate the presence of the criteria using a survey.
South County Hospital, a South County Health facility, first earned its Pathway to Excellence designation in 2012 and redesignation in 2015.
