Learn More“Unfortunately, this has led us to the tough decision to cancel the route,” the company said in a statement to PBN. “However, by making this decision far in advance of the first flight, we are hopeful that we can minimize the disruption to our guests’ travel plans.”
The route was scheduled to begin operating in November and would have been seasonal, running through April.
“We apologize to those who were affected by this route cancellation. All guests who already had flights booked will have the option to rebook to an alternate Sun Country destination, or simply receive a full refund of their itinerary,” the company said. “We look forward to serving Providence travelers on our existing routes and hope to find new opportunities to expand our service in the future.”
At the time of the announcement, R.I. Airport Corp. heralded the addition of the flight route as an important addition for Dominican residents in Rhode Island. It wasn’t immediately clear if RIAC would seek out another operator to fly a Rhode Island-Dominican Republic flight.
