PROVIDENCE – To avoid loss of reading skills over the summer months while out of school, commonly known as the summer slide, writing tools manufacturer A.T. Cross donated 900 of their ballpoint pens and lined journals with pen holders to students at George J. West Elementary School.

“Our commitment to the state and the city of Providence is part of our DNA,” A.T. Cross CEO Robert P. Baird said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to be able to provide Cross pens and journals to the students at George J. West Elementary School to help them continue to learn over the summer and be ready to hit the books when they come back in September.”

The donation was made in celebration of the school’s reading week, June 5-9.
