Calculating rising demand Continuing a national trend that started at the turn of the century, demand for accountants in Rhode Island has risen over recent years by a significant amount, with growth expected to continue in the coming decade. Driven by retiring baby boomers, as well as an organic industry demand and people changing career paths, the state has seen increased enrollment in accounting education programs and faculty growth at the undergraduate and graduate level.*The 2016-2026 report used a new methodology developed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics that the DLT says more accurately measures the movement of workers who jump from industry to industry without leaving the workforce, thus creating a potentially much larger demand for workers in any one discipline. / Source: R.I.
