NEW YORK – The U.S. Navy said Tuesday that it placed a $24.3 million order with aircraft maker Bell-Boeing and exercised a $17.3 million contract option with BAE Systems.
Bell-Boeing, a joint venture between Textron Inc.’s Bell helicopter business and Boeing Co. received its order for engineering and technical support for management of flight control systems on the Osprey aircraft. The Osprey can take off and land vertically like a helicopter but flies like an airplane. Bell-Boeing will provide support for MV-22 and CV-22 aircraft.

The order is part of a previous contract between Bell-Boeing and the Navy. Work will be performed in Philadelphia and in Fort Worth, Texas, and the order is expected to be complete in December.
Under its contract, BAE Systems will provide guidance systems for the advanced precision kill weapon system, an experimental laser guided missile. BAE Systems will do its work in Nashua, N.H., and is expected to complete its order in November 2012.
