PROVIDENCE – Local landscape architectural firm Veri & Associates has won top honors for site design and landscaping in the National Concrete Masonry Association’s annual awards competition.
The firm was honored for its work at an oceanfront residence in the South County area, one of six projects selected by the NCMA from among 70 nominees nationwide. Its award notes that, “among the variety of pavement materials selected, there is a sense of harmony and grace.”

“The deft hand of the designer is felt in the creation of an unexpected relaxing, truly beautiful oceanfront setting,” Junk said.
The 2-acre site’s renovation took 14 months, Veri & Associates said. The firm created large open lawns, bordered by drifts of hydrangeas and dwarf spirea, and a series of garden rooms, the firm said. The driveway cuts through the 6-foot privet hedge that now surrounds the property, bringing visitors to an entrance courtyard that features a granite fountain, ringed with flowers, and pavers carved with poetic and romantic sayings.
Albert R. Veri, the company’s president, and Erik C. Vangsness, who assisted him in the design, traveled to Orlando this month to accept the award at the NCMA National Meeting, where they were guests of honor.
Veri & Associates, founded in 1972, has been recognized with more than 25 design awards. Founder Albert R. Veri is a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects, and is a Loeb Fellow and Elliot Fellow at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design.
