WalletHub: R.I. ranks in top 10 best states for jobs

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island ranked as the No. 10 best state for jobs, according to a WalletHub report Thursday.

The study considered more than 30 metrics, sorted into two sub-rankings, “job market” and “economic environment.”

Rhode Island ranked No. 17 in the nation for job market and No. 7 for economic environment.

Massachusetts ranked No. 1 overall in the study, followed by Washington and Colorado. Rhode Island ranked No. 4 in New England, behind Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire.

The report highlighted the fact that Rhode Island ranked as having the second-shortest average work-week length of any state, behind Utah and tied with Oregon.

Rhode Island earned its worst ranking for a high share of part-time employees at the fifth-highest rate in the nation.

While the Ocean State ranked No. 44 in the U.S. for average monthly starting salary at $2,363 and No. 28 for employment outlook, the state ranked No. 1 for commuter-friendly jobs, No. 3 for working parents, No. 5 for worker protection laws, No. 6 for availability of internships and No. 14 for state income-tax burden for low-income workers.
