Will you make a point to shop local during the holiday season?

The holiday shopping season is underway. One of the signature local kickoff events, Small Business Saturday Shop RI, will be held Nov. 30 at the Crowne Plaza Providence-Warwick. This year, a sellout group of 130 businesses will gather in one place for an event that last year attracted 2,000 shoppers.

Such buy-local efforts, including Providence’s fifth annual #ThinkPVD campaign, try to bring attention to local businesses whose survival often depends of the patronage of Rhode Islanders.

Do you feel compelled to support local businesses during the holidays, even if they don’t have the best prices? Or is your first priority to keep costs down and find the best deals?
