PROVIDENCE – R.I. House Speaker Nicholas A. Mattiello was re-elected to represent Cranston’s District 15 Tuesday, narrowly edging out Republican challenger Steven Frias, WPRI reported Wednesday.
Mattiello reportedly beat Frias by just a few hundred votes. The two candidates ran against one another in 2016, when the margin of victory for Mattiello was even thinner in the district, with fewer than 100 votes deciding the race.

Mattiello could hold a caucus to nominate the next Speaker of the House (which he is eligible to hold again) as soon as Thursday.
Frias conceded Tuesday evening.
