Learn MoreThe Interstate 195 Redevelopment District Commission, in its June 19 meeting, approved changes to the design that were undertaken as a result of efforts to reduce costs.
The revised design also received approval from the Downtown Design Review Committee, a city panel that recommends decisions on building design to the I-195 commission.
Three significant changes were made, according to the presentation notes:
The brick façade will be replaced with fiber cement panels. Protruding bay windows on the Friendship Street side of the building were eliminated from the design. And the southeastern portion of the Chestnut Street section, originally intended to be three stories, was increased to five stories.
The bays that were repeated along the Friendship Street side of the building will be replaced with slightly recessed window accent panels. According to the presentation: “While the elimination of the protruding bays delivers cost savings for the project, from a design perspective we support the revised plan because it uses a different style to accomplish the same goal of breaking up the long façade.”
