2017 Pell Awards Gala announced for May 22, will honor Jessica Lange

PROVIDENCE – Actress Jessica Lange will be honored at the 2017 Pell Awards Gala.

The event will take place at 7 p.m. on May 22 at the WaterFire Arts Center, Trinity Repertory Company announced Thursday.

Lange, an Academy Award winner for her roles in Tootsie and Blue Sky, will be honored with a Pell Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts.  Trinity’s website says of Lange, “Throughout her longstanding career, Jessica has continued to take on diverse roles in many acclaimed film and television projects,” and that she is “acclaimed as one of the greatest actresses of her generation.”

Other honorees of the night include:

Joe and Sally Dowling for the Distinguished Service in the Arts award for being involved with and supportive of Trinity Repertory Theater since 1967.

Ricardo Pitts-Wiley for the Rhode Island Pell Award for Excellence in the Arts for his distinguished theater acting, writing, teaching and nonprofit work.

Rhode Island State Council on the Arts for the Pell Award for Outstanding Leadership in the Arts. RISCA has provided grants, technical assistance and support to artists, arts organizations, schools, community centers, social service organizations and local governments for 50 years.

Tickets to the gala are available at the Trinity Repertory Company’s website. The reception ends at 10 p.m. All proceeds benefit Trinity Repertory’s artistic and educational programs.
