4Q GDP report shows U.S. economy growing at 3.5%

WASHINGTON – The Bureau of Economic Analysis at the U.S. Commerce Department today released its fourth-quarter report on the nation’s Gross Domestic Product, which showed the American economy grew at a rate of 3.5 percent.
“Today’s GDP report shows the U.S. economy is humming,” said Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez in a statement that followed the report. “With 3.5-percent growth, the United States ended 2006 on a high note and the economy is poised to continue growing in 2007. … Last year’s record of $1.5 trillion in exports is helping to fuel GDP growth,” he said.
