PROVIDENCE – The Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island’s Dwares Jewish Community Center recently unveiled a $6 million renovation, which modernized the aging building and created accessibility for people with physical handicaps.
The interior changes improved security, improved flow among rooms and updated internal systems, such as heating, air conditioning and lighting. Along with a renovation of the pool, locker rooms and health club, the Baxt Social Hall and an adjacent Kosher kitchen were updated, with the 4,500-square-foot space now suitable for receptions, parties, seminars and performances.

The David C. Isenberg Family Early Childhood Center also had an expansion of its classrooms and updates.
Renovations began a year ago in the spring. The visible changes include new front and back entrances, an elevator and an upper lobby designed to allow visitors to engage with each other, according to executives.
“All of these upgrades are designed to enhance the membership experience and make the building a more-inclusive community center, welcoming to all,” said Dan Hamel, chief financial officer. “It’s a wonderful, more-inviting experience coming into the building.”
The architect was n|e|m|d architects inc., of Providence. The general contractor was D.F. Pray.
Interior improvements also were handled by Pawtucket-based McShane Home Improvements.
