
BOSTON – Massachusetts foreclosure petitions in October declined 53.3 percent year over year to 447 petitions, according to The Warren Group Tuesday.
Year to date, Massachusetts has seen 8,434 total petitions filed, down 19.9 percent from the 10,530 petitions filed over the same 10-month period in 2016.

“Petitions have now fallen nine out of the last ten months with October seeing the largest year-over-year decline,” said Timothy Warren, CEO of The Warren Group, in a statement. “In fact, October petitions slid so significantly, that they’re now at levels unseen since February 2014.”
There were 423 foreclosure deeds recorded in October, a 22.8 percent decrease from the 548 recorded in October 2016. Foreclosure deeds represent completed foreclosures.
In October, 624 foreclosure auctions were scheduled in Massachusetts, a 10.3 percent increase year over year. Year to date, foreclosure auctions have declined in the Bay State, falling 15.8 percent year over year to 6,234 auctions from the 7,400 auctions through October 2016.
