Washington Trust to open new branch in North Providence

NORTH PROVIDENCE – The Washington Trust Co. expects to open a new branch in North Providence sometime around the start of 2019.

Edward O. “Ned” Handy III, chairman and CEO, told Providence Business News last week about plans for the new branch. The bank hasn’t yet announced specifics, but Handy expects it to be completed by the end of the year or in the first quarter of next year.

The new branch fits into a broader strategy to add about one new location per year.

“We don’t have anything else on the drawing board, but we don’t have any reason to think we won’t continue to do about one branch per year,” Handy said last week.
