The news that the Pawtucket Red Sox are leaving Rhode Island and moving to Worcester, Mass., has launched a series of finger-pointing campaigns that could have long-lasting effects, not the least of which could be to undercut the re-election campaigns of a number of Rhode Island politicians.

Without jumping into the electoral issues, let us first consider if the team’s departure can be placed on the back of any one person or was it a collective failure of leadership?
