“Instead of experiencing these stories on social media from the viewpoint of a professional travel blogger or influencer, Amtrak will highlight riders to tell their individual stories,” Amtrak said in a statement.
The company said the program, #AmtrakTakeMeThere, is designed to help real people connect to an audience in a deeper way.
“Some of the best travel stories occur on our long-distance trains, and we are looking for travelers to share their real experiences,” said Amtrak Chief Marketing Officer Tim Griffin. “Adding the social media component allows our audience to connect and relate to each other.”
Amtrak said its judging panel will evaluate applications based on writing, photography and videography skills; social community engagement and online personality; and how the applicant would represent the Amtrak brand.
Applications can be submitted online only at Amtrak’s #AmtrakTakeMeThere website.
Winners will be announced in the spring of 2019.
