PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Department of Health is advising residents that Whole Foods Market Inc. has recalled Dorset cheese due to potential listeria monocytogenes contamination.
The recall applies to stores throughout the Northeast, including Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire and New York.

Affected products had sell-by dates through Oct. 30 and have the identifiable PLU code of 97776.
No illnesses have been reported to date. Infections have the potential to be fatal in young children, frail or elderly people, pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems.
“Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths and fetal infection among pregnant women,” the Health Department said.
Customers may return the product with a valid receipt at Whole Foods stores for a full refund.
