PROVICENCE – The DaVinci Center, a multipurpose social services nonprofit serving Providence’s North End neighborhood, has received $440,000 in federal funding to expand its community resources and program offerings.
The award was provided through the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services and secured with the help of U.S. Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., through his place on the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, Reed’s office announced on Aug. 31.

The DaVinci Center will use the funds to support its food pantry operations, address housing instability, expand health care access, incorporate bilingual services and fill gaps in workforce development initiatives.
The award comes at an essential time, Reed said, as federal healthcare and food assistance support has taken a hit with the Trump administration’s passing of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
“This infusion of $440,00 provides some much needed reinforcement for the DaVinci Center to continue their outstanding work. But we’ve got to keep pressing to reverse President Trump’s harmful economic policies and get our country headed in a better direction,” Reed said in the announcement.
Founded in 1972, the DaVinci Center provides healthcare, educational, workforce, youth programs and senior services, including health screenings, career counseling, and English as a Second Language classes.
“This investment will strengthen our ability to provide essential services, expand opportunities, and continue serving our community with dignity and respect,” said Norma I. Gonzalez, executive director of the DaVinci Center.
