Washington Trust donates food, $10K to food pantries

PROVIDENCE – The Washington Trust Co.’s charitable foundation has donated $10,000 to local food pantries and has collected more than 900 pounds of nonperishable food items from employees and customers for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
In addition, some members of the Washington Trust staff are expected to volunteer at food pantries around the area.
“With so many of our neighbors facing economic challenges, our longstanding tradition of holiday giving became even more important this year,” said Joseph J. MarcAurele, Washington Trust’s chairman, president and CEO. “As one of the region’s premier financial services companies and Rhode Island’s largest independent bank, we are committed to doing what we can to make our communities strong.”
The bank recently distributed $1,000 each to the Comprehensive Community Action Program in Cranston, West Bay Community Action in Warwick, Providence Intown Churches Association, North Kingstown Food Pantry, Peace Dale Jonnycake Center in South Kingstown, Wood River Health Services, Rhode Island Center Assisting Those in Need in Charlestown, Jonnycake Center of Westerly, W.A.R.M. Shelter of Westerly and Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center in Pawcatuck, Conn.
