NEWPORT – Contractors looking to work with Naval Station Newport can attend a free course next Wednesday about the federal procurement process.
Offered by the Newport County Chamber of Commerce and the Rhode Island Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC), the three-hour class is designed as an introduction to the federal government’s contracting process. The class will review the acquisition process, basic regulatory issues and market strategies. PTAC head Dorothy Reynolds will lead the class.
Newport station officials say they expect millions of dollars in contracting work during the coming years as the station welcomes new commands. The station will soon be home to the U.S. Naval Supply Corps School, and U.S. Sen. Jack Reed recently announced funding for building a new berthing facility for the Officers Training Command, repairs to the Senior Enlisted Academy and the construction of an Army Reserve Center. Most of the additions come thanks to the Base Realignment and Closure Act passed by Congress in 2005.
Wednesday’s class will be held at the Community College of Rhode Island’s Newport campus, 1 John H. Chafee Blvd., Newport. To register, contact Kathleen Papp at (401) 847-1608 or Kathleen@newportchamber.com. For other questions contact Reynolds at dreynolds@riedc.com.
