ENFIELD, Conn. – Home electronics and appliance retailer Bernie’s has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and plans to close its 15 stores, according to the Springfield Republican.
The Connecticut-based chain, whose sole Rhode Island location is in Warwick and which has stores in North Attleboro and Seekonk as well, was founded in 1947 and employs 350 people.
In its filing, the company asked that it be allowed to honor customer deposits, gift cards and rebates, according to the Republican. In addition, it asked U.S. Bankruptcy Court to allow it to conduct a liquidation sale as part of the filing.
