PGA Tour likely to continue in Norton

NORTON – The annual Deutsche Bank Championship golf tournament is likely to take place at the TPC Boston in Norton through 2012, The Sun Chronicle reported.

Seth Waugh, CEO of Deutsche Bank Americas, told The Associated Press his company likely will pick up its two-year option to continue sponsoring the Labor Day PGA Tour event there when its current agreement expires next year.

This year’s Deutsche Bank Championship, the second playoff tournament in the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup, took place last weekend and was won by Steve Stricker.

In the thick of the financial crisis earlier this year, Waugh said he was doubtful about whether Deutsche Bank could continue to sponsor the event, but the improved economy has made him more optimistic.

Although “it’s the most expensive thing we do all year,” Waugh said, “We also get a great return on it.”
