BOSTON – Gov. Deval L. Patrick last week announced his administration has procured energy for 24 state agencies, authorities and nonprofits, a move expected to create $10 million in savings on energy costs over the next two years.
The administration, working with Worcester-based World Energy Exchange and Science Applications International Corporation, conducted a reverse auction for electricity supply for state executive branch agencies, the courts, the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, the Massachusetts Military Division, Quincy Medical Center, Greater Boston Legal Services and a small nonprofit.
Patrick said in a statement the auctions attracted New England’s top energy suppliers and resulted in contracts that will power accounts for the state’s executive agencies, including the Mass. Department of Capital Asset Management, Mass. Department of Conservation and Recreation, the Mass. State Police and Mass. Department of Corrections. A number of large nonexecutive state agencies also awarded contracts through the auction.
“In a time when every dollar counts, we are pleased that we were able to secure this contract and help provide a real savings to the commonwealth,” said Jim Ferri, energy procurement manager, the Mass. Operational Services Division. •
