Westerly Hospital offers free educational programs

The Westerly Hospital last week launched its Healthy For Life community education series, free programs for lay audiences covering everything from tips on sustaining a healthy lifestyle to elder care to social and emotional issues surrounding teen sex.
Each program in the series features a primary-care or specialty-care physician and/or other medical professionals speaking about their areas of expertise.
“Our community education programs are one of the many benefits that a community hospital brings to an area in addition to the more obvious access to medical care,” said Charles S. Kinney, president and CEO of the hospital. “These programs give our community the opportunity to learn about health and wellness issues that matter most to them in a casual setting where they can feel comfortable asking questions.”
All community education programs are free and held in the hospital’s Henry J. Nardone Conference Center from 6 to 7:30 p.m., unless otherwise noted. To register, call (401) 348-2303 or (800) 933-5960, ext. 3423, and leave your name, phone number and the topic of the program.
Upcoming programs include:

  • Feb. 5: Geriatric assessment and care management: Getting answers to your elder care questions.
  • March 2: Esophagus and stomach health (at the Mystic Medical Center).
  • March 16: Liver, gallbladder and pancreas health (at the Mystic Medical Center).
  • March 30: Intestines and colon health (at the Mystic Medical Center).
  • April 2: Brain attacks: Everything you need to know about strokes.
