Providence to upgrade roadways, sidewalks

PROVIDENCE – A $463,000 project to improve public roads and sidewalks in the Downtown, Federal Hill and West End neighborhoods is slated to get under way this summer, according to City Councilor John J. Lombardi, D-Dist. 13.
Work on the project, financed by a neighborhood improvement bond and community development block grant (CDBG) funds, should begin within 30 days, he said in a statement yesterday. “By summer’s end,” Lombardi added, “we will see an appreciable improvement in the condition of our roads and walkways.”
He is a member of a team that has been identifying “priority” areas and deteriorating infrastructure.
“The Downtown Neighborhood Alliance, the West Broadway Neighborhood Alliance and individual residents have assisted in compiling an extensive list of sidewalks and streets throughout Ward 13 which are in dire need of repair,” Lombardi said. “Neighbors are very anxious to see the program get under way, and I am pleased I was able to coordinate funding for the project.”
