Conway named North Star’s new ‘marketing maven’

Angela Conway has been named “marketing maven” at North Star Marketing. In her new role, Conway will complement and support the marketing and public relations team members with managing client accounts and helping further the agency’s growth with future business opportunities. Conway has a B.A. in public relations from Boston University and an M.A. in global marketing and advertising from Emerson College.

PBN: Has working for large corporations such as L’Oreal USA and CVS/pharmacy given you a different perspective or influenced your approach on client relations?
CONWAY: One thing I have learned in my experience with large corporations is the hierarchy of decision making. Major corporations have goals and priorities set by the company leaders, and as these trickle down the ranks, it is important for all involved with the projects to understand the overall mission.

PBN: Do you see the trends of global marketing in local, tight-knit communities?
CONWAY: As the business world is becoming a lot smaller and more interconnected, the principles of global marketing are being applied to many types of target audiences. You may consider the city of Providence a community in itself, and even a small one, but within the city there are consumers of Hispanic origin, college students, single mothers, you name it. Each of these groups has different needs, and it is important that a marketer responds to these needs individually and develops strategies that can help brands transcend cultural barriers.
I find that a marketing approach from a cross-cultural standpoint allows me to be more acutely aware of the needs of the client. I understand that their customers are not uniform, and try to develop strategies that resonate with each and every member of a client’s target audience.

PBN: Can you describe an account/client/project that produced an outcome/result you were proud of?
CONWAY: Since I have been with North Star I have done extensive research into the Web 2.0 Culture and in Social Media in particular. What I have learned about blogs, podcasts, RSS feeds, MySpace, Facebook, and so much more is seriously mind-bending. The marketing potential in social media is immense! •
