Unemployment down across Massachusetts

BOSTON – All 22 labor markets in Massachusetts experienced lower unemployment rates in the third quarter of 2007 then during the same period in 2006, according to the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.
According to a report issued late last month by the office, the largest declines occurred in areas including New Bedford, Peabody, Lawrence, Salem and Chelmsford. Statewide, the seasonally unadjusted total unemployment rate was 3.8 percent in October 2007, seven-tenths of a percentage point below the 4.5 rate recorded one year ago.
Along with the unemployment rates dropping, job growth occurred across most of the state. The only area where it didn’t increase over the year was in the Leominster-Fitchburg-Gardner labor market, which was unchanged.
