NEWPORT – Newport Hospital today announced it has been named a Distinguished Hospital for Patient Safety by HealthGrades.
It is the only local hospital included by the ratings company in its 2007 list of the nation’s safest hospitals. To achieve listing as a Distinguished Hospital, an institution must demonstrate overall commitment to patient safety, implementation of effective safety protocols and vigilance of staff and administration.
“The medical community has implemented many patient safety improvement programs in recent years, with the goal of eliminating preventable incidents that could compromise patient care,” noted Dr. Terrence McWilliams, who as vice president for medical affairs is responsible for Newport Hospital’s patient safety program.
“We’re very pleased to be among a small percentage of this country’s hospitals to be named on the HealthGrades list,” he said.
