PAWTUCKET – Patricia S. Zacks has been named the winner of one of two 2007 Pawtucket Foundation Persons of the Year Awards.
She was selected for her commitment to the establishment and nurturing of an environment in Pawtucket where artists can work collectively and thrive individually, the foundation said.
Zacks is a graduate of Tolman High School and studied at Roger Williams University. A professional photographer herself, and the proprietor of The Camera Werks in Providence, she “uses her experience and expertise to reach out to the city,” The Pawtucket Foundation said.
The foundation’s Tuesday-night announcement cites her role in the founding of the Pawtucket Arts Collaborative, a group “dedicated to supporting, promoting and developing the arts for the community and its artists.” From its beginning in 2000, with 25 artists at Slater Mill, the group has grown to 140 members.
Zacks also is a founder of an annual photo contest, now in its eighth year, that “has become one of the most anticipated events of the Pawtucket Arts Festival. She encourages aspiring students to participate … by organizing workshops in Pawtucket Public Schools,” the foundation said.
