RISD names building after Roger Mandle

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island School of Design is renaming its landmark 15 Westminster St. building, home to its Fleet Library at RISD and residences for 500 students, in honor of President Roger Mandle, who is stepping down at the end of the academic year.
In a resolution passed on Oct. 27, RISD’s Board of Trustees voted to name the former Rhode Island Hospital Trust Building as The Roger Mandle Building: The Rhode Island School of Design Living and Learning Center.
Mandle has led RISD since 1993. A search for his successor is under way, RISD said.
In a news release, Mandle said he was “overcome with gratitude” for the honor. He added: “The living and learning center that now bears my name is physical testimony to our vision of a community of creative people, living and working within the framework of cultural knowledge, exploring together new horizons of creativity.” •
