PROVIDENCE – “Gasoline prices in Rhode Island have fallen for the fourth consecutive week, and now average 10 cents less than at the start of the year,” said AAA of Southern New England.
AAA’s Feb. 4 survey of local stations found that self-serve, regular unleaded averaged $3.039 per gallon, 1 cent less than last week. A year ago at this time, the average price in the Ocean State was $2.179.

Nationwide, the average price for regular unleaded gas in the weekly survey fell 1 cent to $2.979, remaining 6 cents lower than Rhode Island, the nonprofit auto club found.
Local prices ranged from $2.969 to $3.099 for self-serve regular unleaded, a 13 cent difference. Wider ranges were seen for other grades of fuel, which had average self-serve prices of $3.169 for mid-grade unleaded; $3.279 for premium and $3.539 for diesel.
