PROVIDENCE – Achievement First will open its second elementary school, Achievement First Iluminar Mayoral Academy, in August, serving students from Providence, North Providence, Cranston and Warwick.
The school will begin with approximately 180 kindergarten and first-grade students in August, and add a grade each year until it serves approximately 450 pupils in grades kindergarten through four .

This new Mayoral Academy represents a major step toward completing the vision laid out in Achievement First’s charter; it is an exciting new opportunity for Providence’s children and our community. “
“Iluminar,” Spanish for “to enlighten,” reflects the goal and commitment of the school to build a school community around enlightenment and the joy of learning. In addition, the majority of students in Achievement First’s current Rhode Island school are Latino.
Achievement First Iluminar Mayoral Academy will be temporarily co-located with the Achievement First Providence Mayoral Academy at 370 Hartford Ave. This co-location will last for approximately two years while a permanent building and location is identified for Achievement First Iluminar Mayoral Academy.
Both Achievement First Iluminar Mayoral Academy and Achievement First Providence Mayoral Academy are currently accepting students for 2015-2016. All students are admitted by blind lottery; the schools require no admissions tests or fees. To enter the lottery for an Achievement First school, families can visit achievementfirst.org/enroll or visit the school at 370 Hartford Ave. to fill out a lottery enrollment form. Parents also can call 347-1106 ext. 30601 or email admissionsRI@achievementfirst.org. Lottery deadline is Feb. 28.
