MIDDLETOWN – A longtime advocate for addiction treatment was honored late last month during a recovery rally in Middletown.

Fred A. Trapassi Jr., CEO of AdCare Rhode Island, received a Lifetime Achievement Award during the Aquidneck Island Rally 4 Recovery’s celebration of National Recovery Month.

“Throughout my career, which extends back to the first rally in Cranston, I’ve been excited to participate and fortunate to have employers as rally sponsors,” Trapassi said. “The Lifetime Rally 4 Recovery award is special because it’s given to me by my colleagues and peers.”

Rally 4 Recovery is Rhode Island’s largest organized event focused on spreading awareness and compassion for people in recovery. It is also celebrated in Bristol, Providence and Warwick.

“Fred was selected for his strong support of the Rhode Island Rallies 4 Recovery and his hard work fighting the disease of addiction and the stigma that surrounds it,” said Colleen Carpender, an Aquidneck Island Rally 4 Recovery committee member.

Trapassi began working with youths and adults living on the streets of Providence more than 30 years ago. He went on to develop and implement the first street and mobile medical van outreach programs, which serve people in need throughout the state.

Trapassi then went on to join American Addiction Centers, and this year became head of AdCare Rhode Island, which provides addiction treatment in residential centers across the state.
