PROVIDENCE – Amtrak plans on spending $72.5 million to renovate and upgrade stations in its network for fiscal 2019. Providence Station will see $1.2 million spent on an emergency generator during the year, according to a press release Tuesday.
The passenger rail service said that large-scale work worth $21.5 million will take place at 23 stations in 17 states, while 30 locations in 18 states will have American with Disabilities Act compliance work done worth $51 million, all part of its “Customer Now” initiative.

The company highlighted its $22 million spent at Chicago Union Station, which includes renovations to the 219-foot-long skylight that is located 115 feet above the Great Hall’s floor. In addition the work installed an ADA-access elevator to the station from its West side for the first time.
Fiscal 2018 work totaled $19 million for the network.
