Amtrol acquired for $283M by Ohio firm

WEST WARWICK – Amtrol Inc. was acquired by Worthington Industries Inc., a Columbus, Ohio-based metals manufacturing company for approximately $283 million, Worthington announced Friday.

West Warwick-based-Amtrol manufacturers pressure cylinders and water system tanks.

“Amtrol is a great addition to our company, and I am pleased to welcome Amtrol employees,” said John McConnell, Chairman and CEO of Worthington Industries in a press release.  “This acquisition aligns well with our core competencies in pressure cylinders and expands our product offerings to our wholesale and retail customers. … Amtrol will also expand and enhance our growing culture of innovation and the development of new products.”

Amtrol reported $248 million in sales in 2016. According to to PBN’s 2017 Book of Lists, Amtrol employs about 415 full-time workers in Rhode Island.

A representative from Worthington Industries said the company has no immediate plans to alter employment at Amtrol. They did not, however, that they expect to transition some leadership in the company.
