Dr. Amy Correia is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Rhode Island. She joined URI in 2016 and launched the University’s master’s degree program in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and Bilingual/Dual Language Immersion. URI’s program has been ranked among the best online graduate programs by U.S. News and World Report.

Dr. Correia has nearly 20 years of experience teaching multilingual learners, as well as designing, implementing, and evaluating language programs to support them. She has broad experience designing effective professional development programs and coursework to prepare educators to support multilingual learners, and she has engaged extensively with teachers and administrators across Rhode Island to help schools better support multilingual learners.
Dr. Correia has served as a multilingual learner ambassador for the state of Rhode Island, where she designed the state’s only cohort to train school leaders in multilingual learner education. She is the current vice-chair of Rhode Island’s Multilingual Learner Advisory Council, and she also has served as an expert in online and hybrid instruction.
