Rentable electric scooters are again popping in small groups around downtown Providence and other parts of the city.

Two companies have been permitted by the city to operate 300 scooters each.
They follow the departure of two others that began operating last year but recently disappeared.

The city didn’t renew the annual permit for one of the companies and the other opted not to accept a renewal, according to Mayor Jorge O. Elorza’s office.

While popular with students, others worry about the safety of pedestrians and the riders themselves, should they fall from the scooters.

Are you glad to see this new form of transportation on city sidewalks and streets? Or should the city do more to ensure their safe operation?
