PROVIDENCE – Another company has chosen Simulia’s Abaqus finite element analysis (FEA) software to run product simulations.
The Providence-based virtual testing software company, which is owned by Dassault Systèmes of France, announced last week that the Taiwanese computer company ASUSTeK, also known as Asus, is using Abaqus FEA as it develops new products.

In a news release, Simulia predicted that using Abaqus FEA would help Asus “to significantly reduce time and costs while maintaining their focus on excellence.”
“The extremely quick pace of innovation, particularly in the electronic industry, makes it critical to diminish time-to-market as much as possible,” Benson Chan, an Asus design manager, said in the release.
“Abaqus FEA will enable our engineering teams to reduce costly, time-consuming physical tests by using virtual simulations such as mobile phone drop, twisting, bending simulation, hinge-operating simulation, pressure-on-NB cover simulation, and others,” Chan said.
Last month, Simulia announced that Procter & Gamble had also started using its software.
In 2007, one in three desktop PCs sold was powered by an Asus motherboard, the company says. The company’s Eee line of mini-laptops, or netbooks, has also attracted attention recently.
