AVTECH launches Active Power Sensor

WARREN – AVTECH Software Inc. has introduced a new patent-pending Active Power Sensor for its customers in the data center and IT sectors, the manufacturer announced Tuesday.

The new Active Power Sensor is designed to help provide power-status information for servers and related equipment in data centers. Although data-center operators need to monitor the power status of critical servers and systems, it’s not always possible to unplug production equipment in order to attach a power sensor, AVTECH said.

The Active Power Sensor solves this challenge, as it can be attached to any standard power cable to add power-monitoring capability to any AC-powered electric device from 100 Watts to 1800 Watts. In addition, the Active Power Sensor provides real-time temperature readings.

AVTECH has been in business since 1988 and manufactures Room Alert, an environment monitor for data centers and IT facilities. Room Alert is manufactured in the United States and proactively monitors environment conditions such as temperature, humidity, flood, power, smoke and more.

Room Alert is currently used in 184 countries by companies including Amazon, Boeing, Sprint and Microsoft, as well as all branches of the U.S. government and military, all 50 U.S. states, and many local governments and educational facilities.

“Our new Active Power Sensor is designed to monitor the power status of devices that requires near 100 percent uptime, such as servers and critical hardware like firewalls and phone systems,” said Richard Grundy, president of AVTECH. “It’s also great for monitoring equipment that is hard-wired to an electrical panel, such as pumps, electric motors and HVAC equipment.”

The sensor’s small footprint also allows it be installed unobtrusively in any area, Grundy said. The Active Power Sensor is fully compatible with any current model of the Room Alert environment monitoring system.

The Active Power Sensor will retail for $95 and begin shipping on Sept. 15.
